Known issues with Firefox 9+

The short version:

Recently, some of our customers have reported page-loading errors when using Wiredrive on the Firefox 9+ browser.  We are aware of the issue and are working on a code fix.  Until then, we recommend using an alternative browser like Safari or Chrome, which are not experiencing any performance issues with Wiredrive.

We will alert you as soon as we have a fix in place.

The long version:

Firefox 9+ has new Javascript enhancements that make Web browsing significantly faster. The latest update to Firefox includes optimizations which boost Javascript performance and allow rich websites and web apps with lots of pictures, videos, games and 3D graphics to load and run much faster.  Firefox claims a 30% increase in performance.

This speedup in Javascript is causing problems with how pages in Wiredrive are rendered – the order of events is now very important.  If the Firefox Javascript engine tries to render code that is not yet available (because it is still being downloaded to the browser), the result is a broken or empty page, which some customers have already reported to our support team.

The fix requires a small change to every page in Wiredrive.  First, we need to re-architect the order that code is sent to the browser, then change the order that the Javascript engine tries to render the page.  No Wiredrive features need to be altered or disabled for this change.

The development team is in the process of making this change and testing all functionality.  The change is not technically difficult, but it is time consuming.  Once we pass our QA testing, we will push the change live, and customers should be able to use Firefox 9+ without a problem.  In addition, the resulting codebase will be much easier to maintain and modify.

Please see our support page for most up to date system requirements.

Thank you for your patience,

– The Wiredrive Team
